Alone

A spouse and children a home make
Society's demands we won't forsake
Even if our hearts will break
We must have a family of our own.

Finding love becomes obsession
No success leads to depression
Many choose a concession
And more misery is grown

Finding love not meant to be
Rebuffed and hurt repeatedly
The soul screams `What's wrong with me?'
As despair bites deep to the bone

Despair is master of dark illusion
And drowns us in our confusion
It points us to ill conclusion
Esteem crumbles like a scone

This is not how we were meant to be
Checking off items one, two, three
As society smiles on with glee
And we live life like a drone

This need's might is power given
And this power must be riven
If in the world we live in
The seeds of happiness can be sown

It is good in life to set a goal
But if it's a race it'll take its toll
And you may pay the price with your soul
A goal should not be set in stone

Before you seek the love of your life
To help minimize all the strife
For which we know this world is rife
Make love *of* life be how you're known

Give love not just to lovers' care
But to friends and family also share
And for your passions you must dare
If happiness should set the tone

I don't know if this advice is sage
In the daily battles we all wage
One thing I`ve learned at my age
A heart that loves is never truly alone
This was one of the first poems I wrote and, obviously, I was working some issues out. Anyway, I hope you enjoy @};-
